Our Science Based Targets Are Officially Approved
At M.Tarun, we’ve always believed that craftsmanship and responsibility must go hand in hand. As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we are pleased to share that our near term science-based targets have been officially approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This validation marks a significant milestone in our commitment to sustainability.
Our Target: Near-Term Commitment
We have set a near-term science-based target, approved by the SBTi, to reduce our absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030 (base year: 2023). This aligns with a 1.5°C trajectory, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement and a critical threshold for avoiding the worst impacts of climate change.
Why It Matters
The latest climate science from the IPCC serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for action. We recognize that every industry, including ours, has a role to play in addressing climate change. Drastic and immediate emission reductions are necessary across all sectors if we are to keep global temperature rise below 1.5°C.
As a midstream player in the diamond value chain, we recognize that while our emissions may be modest compared to larger industries, our responsibility isn’t. The way we operate, our operations, sourcing practices and transport has a meaningful impact. And our actions today shape the resilience of tomorrow’s industry.
Our Journey So Far and the Path Ahead
Our journey with the SBTi began with a thorough assessment of our carbon footprint in 2024. This foundational work helped us set realistic and achievable targets. We are now focused on implementing decarbonization strategies across our operations and engaging with suppliers to support emission reductions across the value chain. Data collection, process innovation and collaboration with like-minded partners will be key.
Thank You
This achievement reflects the collective effort of our team and external partners who’ve helped us establish a clear and credible roadmap for climate action. We are grateful for the support and guidance of the Science Based Targets initiative and look forward to continuing our journey in alignment with science.
Stay tuned as we continue sharing updates from our sustainability roadmap. Together, let’s shape a future where beauty and responsibility coexist.
